Gayle Swank Reyes
As a former public school art teacher of twelve years, I struggled to find the time to create for myself. Now as a teaching artist with Education for the Arts in Kalamazoo Michigan, I have the unique opportunity to practice my art and learn new techniques through a collaboration with professional artists from the Kalamazoo Institute of the Arts, where I teach and take classes. In addition to teaching at the KIA, I am owner/operator of Cultivating Creativity, where I lead restorative art activities at the Kalamazoo Juvenile Home through the Title One program for adjudicated youth to address some of their social emotional needs. For the past twelve years, I have led teams of artists and over 1000 young people in Kalamazoo to make murals and sculpture installations at Maple Street Magnet School for the Arts, Northglade Montessori Elementary and New Genesis After School Program.
I enjoy working in many mediums such as ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, encaustic and painting in oil.
